This year, our town celebrates 20 years of the festive magic that is the Niagara On The Lake Rotary Holiday House Tour. Six grand, local homes are festooned for the season by local designers, and the doors are open to guests who’d like to take a walk through.
House selections for the 2018 tour feature an elegant blend of history and contemporary design, and in addition to the decked halls of these beautiful homes, several local businesses, wineries and landmarks are on display each year. These venues are also adorned in the spirit of the season, with special lunch menus (Niagara on the Lake Golf Club, Grace Anglican Church), complimentary tastings (Trius, Peller and Wine Country Vintners) and tours (RiverBrink, McFarland House, Niagara Pumphouse, Niagara Historical Society and Museum) on offer to guests, who flock to this annual tradition.
To honour this milestone anniversary, a special evening tour of The McArthur Estate, (formerly the home of Tricia Romance) was available for VIP pass holders, including a moonlight stroll through the illuminated grounds, merry carolers, a nativity scene, complimentary sparkling wine and cider in the gardens, and a visit from Santa himself. You’d think the guy would be busy at this time of the year, but apparently, visitors come from miles away to experience the tour, and the VIP passes sold out quickly.
Green Rentals by Mori Gardens will decorate our now ‘Internet famous’ local mansion, the Grand Victorian. This stately home (and the décor furnished by Green Rentals by Mori Gardens) was recently featured in the Netflix movie, ‘Christmas Inheritance’ starring Andie MacDowell. Green Rentals by Mori Gardens not only invests their time and talents to making the Holiday House Tour a success each year they also extend their décor rentals and talented decorating staff to local homes and businesses.
Mori Gardens is a popular carpool meeting point for the Rotary Tour, which is a great way for visitors to support the local businesses who make the Holiday Tour possible. Pop in for a visit, see how the centre has been transformed into a winter wonderland, pick up some of the delightfully fragrant greenery featured in the design of the Grand Victorian, chat with staff for ideas about decorating your own home for the holidays, and check out their selection of gift items. I’m told there’s also Gracie’s Cookies and a special coupon for Holiday House Tour visitors.
Tickets for this year’s Rotary Holiday House Tour are nearly sold out, but you can grab yours by visiting Mori Gardens or online at www.niagaraonthelakerotary.ca. The Tour is on November 30th and December 1st from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. both days.
How can we assist in bringing a winter wonderland to your home?
